Bananagrams

Role: Art & Design Director
Bananagrams is a smash-hit board game hit that is reminiscent of a freeform group Scrabble. We obtained the license to create a multiplayer Facebook game and mobile app, and set out to make it as exciting to play as the actual game. It was an extremely fun and rewarding project with lots of interesting UX challenges. In particular, because the player was manipulating small tiles on a mobile screen, I came up with interaction solutions that allowed the user to freely zoom in and out of the board and easily view tiles when moving them (by "popping" up the tile above the player's finger when dragging, and showing a shadow where it would land). These UX decisions helped make the game as intuitive and fun as the physical board game. In addition to the core gameplay, I prototyped and designed all other areas of the UX, including a complex lobby-system interface and leaderboards.
